It’s Starting To Look Like An Actual Bedroom

I got the bedroom all cleaned up yesterday. With all of the tools put away, all of the trash bagged up and taken out, and the floor thoroughly cleaned, I was so excited to finally bring in the area rug, bedside tables, and headboard fabric.

The first thing I did when the rug was in place was breathe a huge sigh of relief. I had been nervous that the orange was going to be too muted orange or burnt orange and wouldn’t be able to hold its own against the bold colors in my walk-in closet and the bold colors that will go in the foyer.

Thankfully, there was nothing to worry about. The rug was way more vibrant that I remembered. Keep in mind that the upper wall color is a stand in for the grasscloth wallpaper.

The rug size is just perfect. It’s a 9′ x 12′, and the room is just under 15′ wide.

One thing I realized last night is that in my mind, I had been planning on putting two drapery panels on each one of the windows on the headboard wall. In fact, I purchased enough fabric to do two panels on each of those windows. But in my mock up, I only put one panel on each window.

I not only bought enough fabric for two panels per window, but I bought enough lining for two panels per window, and enough trim for two panels per window, and enough drapery rings for two panels per window. And when ordering that stuff, for some reason, I never thought to refer back to my mockup picture to see what, exactly, I had planned. 😀 Oh well. Since I have the extra fabric, I might go ahead and make the panels for these windows 1.5 widths so that they’ll be the same fullness as the panels that will go on the door.

I don’t have a whole lot of room in those corners for a lot of fabric, but I think it’ll work.

I did get the outlet covers on, but as you can see, I didn’t have time to paint them yet. 😀 Don’t worry. I won’t have striped outlet covers in the finished room.

Okay, so here is a wide angle view of the area rug, bedside tables, and headboard fabric. The wall color is looking a little bright. I’m hoping the grasscloth wallpaper will appear deeper in color.

And now I can hopefully pick out a color for the dresser. You can see that there are several browns, tans, and even a greige color in the rug.

And there are also some browns and tans in the headboard fabric.

I do like the idea of painting the dresser a tan or greige color from the rug or fabric, but part of me thinks that’s way too tame for me. Perhaps I need to get the headboard made first, and then even get the draperies made and installed, and then I’ll be able to see if that side of the room needs a color that’s tame or dramatic. It might be too soon to make that decision.

And I could also wait for my recliner to get here. I was hoping it would be here by now, but the latest it’s supposed to arrive is November 11.

Anyway, it’s fun to finally see some pretty stuff in here.

And Felicity seems to approve as well. 🙂
