I’m still working on the bedroom curtains, so unfortunately, I won’t be ending this year on the blog with this big project marked off of my “to do” list. But I did get one panel finished to the point that we can compare the original version and this new version and see the difference.
When I started making these draperies, I decided to wrap the trim around the edge of the leading edge of each panel. For some reason, I thought using the full width of the trim would be too much. But as I shared earlier this week, once the first panel was almost finished and I hung it up to pin the hem, I wasn’t really pleased with the look of the wrapped trim.
So yesterday, I did a whole lot of ripping out seams and removing trim. Then I basically started over. I only got one panel to the point that it was ready to hang, with the pleats finished, so that I can pin in the hem. And as soon as I stepped back to take a look, I breathed a sigh of relief. Being able to see the full width of the trim looks so much better to my eye. It has a much more polished and professional look to it.

And contrary to my original concern, I don’t think it’s too bold at all. It definitely helps that I coffee-dyed the trim to tone it down a bit. Had I kept it in its original brighter orange color, I think it might have been too bold. But with its new toned down colors, I love it.

So this is where I’m leaving things for this year. That doesn’t mean that I won’t work on the bedroom at all over the next two weeks. In fact, I fully plan to continue working on the bedroom over the next two weeks. The difference is that I won’t put any pressure on myself to get things done daily. If I want to take a whole day off to read and watch movies with Matt, that’s what I’ll do. But if I feel inspired to make an upholstered headboard, I’ll do that. And then I’ll meet y’all back here on Monday, January 5th, and we’ll pick up right where we left off.
I am a little bit disappointed that I didn’t get the bedroom suite completely finished by the end of this year. But at the same time, I’m very proud of the work that I did get accomplished. This was a huge project, so I’m not going to beat myself up for it taking a little longer than I had anticipated. Instead, I’m going to end this year looking back at how far I’ve come.
This room has come a long way! It went from this…

To this…

To this…

And of course, there were a thousand steps taken to get from Point A to Point B, and so many of you have followed every step of the way. So thank you for following along on this journey, for all of your input along the way, for commiserating with me on the failures, and for celebrating the victories with me. It’s been a fun year, and I look forward to picking up right where we left off in the New Year. I’ll be back tomorrow for one final post of 2025 as we take a final look at everything I accomplished this year, and we’ll see how I did on my 2025 Master List of Home Goals.
